Yellow eye

I have not done much bottom fishing and could really use some advise. The last two times out I have been unable to avoid catching Yellow-eye . I tried going to bigger bait and hooks (pink salmon heads) but always seem to catch them. As you can not release them with any hope of them surviving I have been forced to stop bottom bouncing when I have a limit of them. Often before I have any halibut or lings. Any tips on how to avoid them. Thanks

If I fish an area with Lings and rockfish (and don't want rocos) I keep my gear off bottom. Try fishing 10-12 feet off bottom. Lings will come up to feed, yellow eyes usually hug bottom. You will catch less fish, but they willl usually be the ones you want.

LOL. Um My problem is the exact opposite... So uh.. anyone have any CR honey holes for big Snapper? (Yellow Eye?)
Ling is no problem on this end.
Feel free to pm me rather than post if you wish it to stay secret.

Thanks in advance!
