Yamaha digital tach not working

Hey guys

I have digital yamaha gauges on my dory. This morning one of the tach didn't turn on when the motor started. I tap the gauge and it worked. Now when I tap the gauge the screen will turn off and then back on. All the wire are connected. It's like there is a lose connection inside the gauge. Can these gauges be taken apart and repaired? Has anyone had this problem before the gauges are on 07 yamaha 40hp.

Thanks

Chances are its fried. Never tap on the gauge, always tap beside it. It should be a sealed unit and thus cannot be repaired. A digital gauge gets its signals via a PCB or printed circuit board which upon visual inspection doesn,t always reveal a fault but a diode or resistor could be fried. Might try cleaning all connections with contact cleaner and a brass brush and if you can get into the unit give the pcb a alcohol bath 99.9% If that doesn't fix it buy new. This comes from years of messing with electronics and gauges in a unrelated field.
