Would 9.9 be too big for my boat

I have a 16 ft Double Eagle with a 8hp 2 stroke.
I need to up grade to a kicker with battery charger. Would 9.9hp 2 stroke be too heavy for my boat?

Check your kicker bracket. Depending on the weight of the new kicker, you may need to upgrade that too.

Thanks guys. I will be take a 9.9 if it comes along.
With my present kicker the propeller sometimes gets air on waves. We currently have have a short shat. Should I look for a long shaft to avoid that problem?
I measured that a long shaft would bring the kicker leg in line with the main engine's propeller.
With my limited knowledge, I think that should be fine. Any comments?

You can get a extra long leg and keep the powerhead further out of the water by bolting a kicker bracket plate to the transom then bolt the kicker to that. That's how I had my old 17 DE set up.

I had a 16' DE with a high thrust extra long shaft yamaha 4 stroke there was no way it would fit on the transom it was an older double eagle the 16' has a narrow transom compared to the 17' I had to use the heavy bracket and the prop would sometimes catch a wave weight was not an issue and a long shaft would have done the trick.
