Well Kelly it's not the fishing experience it's the work ethic.
You need to be the kind of a guy who can do a job, clean something up say, and then have some dumb guest screw everything up so you have to go and do it all over again and not say a word not even to yourself just do the job and let the emotion slide by.
When sending your resume stress that you've been a strong team player all your life and enjoy working and achieving as part of a team.
The guiding part is even tougher because you never know what kind of a jerkoff you'll end up with-you need strong people skills-the fishing is secondary.

that's why there's a warranty!

Start working part time where you live in the hospitality business.
Retail or any place that deals with the general public (hotel/motel).
When next summer comes around it will do you well to have experience with dealing with the general public.
I agree with Rodbreaker, good guides are better with people first and fishing second.
Fishing resorts and guiding is a pure service business. One where you must love dealing with all types of clients and are willing to just let some things bounce right off you. (just like a real job)
A place like the golf course near you might even be a good start or maybe one of the resorts or marinas.

Age is a small issue, but the best way to break in is show a keen liking to fishing and the outdoors. Try aiming for a deckhand position at one of the bigger lodges that support a large number of deck hands. The lodge I used to work at had close to ten deckhands with most of the in their teens.

You have no idea how much i love fishing and the ocean.
All i do is fish crab prawn. and dream about fishing crabing prawning. i have tried many many resorts and they all say 16 is the youngest they accept.I have not much to say in a resame. Buti do know tons about fishing and boating. i have my boating lisceanse and i go out by myself everyday for hours. I will try to make a good resame but its hard to put stuff like that in a resame because they probaly wouldnt always belive you. Being a deck-hand at a big lodge would literaly be heaven. i would pay to that. But im sure if i keep trying sooner or latter i will get a job. I have emailed about 30 resorts but have only gotten 2 replies and they said try again in a couple years. so i dunno what 2 do
