Thanks for all your bass tips guys. My neighbour and I are going to take a trip to Shawnigan on sunday with my buddy's dad. It ought to be interesting..... 2 bass newbies and 1 experienced east-coast bass fisherman. But these smallies seem to be different from the eastern ones. Least that is what I have been told by another east-coast fisherman that got skunked while my neighbour and I caught fish!

Other than Terry's awesome online store, where can a guy pick up the bass hooks by Gamakatsu or Eagle claw. Got stumped yesterday in Victoria.

Hey Eric -
I love Shawnigan Lake, I truly believe it a fishery like no other I have ever fished.
There are a few stores that sell my tackle. Colwood Petro Can has some of our stuff but if you want a great selection try Sealand Tackle in Nanaimo. They carry all sorts of gear as well as the Eagle Claw hooks.
Just a reminder, we have FREE shipping until the end of Sept.
Good luck on Shawnigan and please forward some photos.

All the best,

Terry Skipper

Thank you so much for the great tip on Sealand. We went to 'Gone Fishin' as well and found more great Reaction bait gear.
............ however today kinda sucked. We spent too much time second guessing ourselves and the best morning time cruising around looking for the 'best place'. The older guys just wouldn't listen to me IMO. Finally we stopped after I said, "Enough of this, I'm getting antsy for some wet line."
So I have faith. Instead of getting frustrated I want to go back to prove that I kinda know what I am doing!
The cons? Too much traffic (that west finger of Shawnigan is like a watersport highway) too wishy-washy with a tackle choice (kept changing to get all the exposure possible) and strange lake (first time bass fishing on it)
Pros? We were on the water chucking lures, having a beer or two and generally enjoying the day. At least we did catch some fish. One good sized bass even broke off Steve's lure. The true one that got away.
Better luck next time I guess.

Steve and his giant green perch. Nope it's not a lure!

You are right - the best days on the water are days on the water.
I have been in the same circumstance many times and all I wanted to do was jump on the nearest dock with my gear and fish. Cruisin' is for Friday night along the main drag for gals.
There are so many spots to fish, on your next visit check out the islands. Locate the chunk rock area and throw some tubes or SinkSlos. That area is only about 8 - 10' ft. deep but man does it hold fish. If that is slow try hitting the docks, we always catch fish on the docks there.
Rippin' pics - make sure you have a camera for your next visit, I am sure there will be some nice bronzebacks on film.

All the best,
