Went to the big qualicum this morn thinking it wouldnt be to crowded because it was a weekday. wrong!it was packed i watched for about an hour didnt bother fishing. Went to a little river near my house. First cast lose a coho next cast hook a simaler one about 6 pounds get it in. After that i lost 9 more!!!!!! I got 8 of them on a bluefox #4 and 1 on a pink spoon. They were all chrome bullets and two were monsters! I lost one around 15 and one around 10 the 15 pounder snapped my line thanks to my drag malfunctioning. I swear my drag has a mind of its own one second no drag next second no line comes out ill have to fix it. All fish were released
Ps i saw one guy with 2 or 3 nice coho at the big Q

you really expected no crowds at the Big Q?Whats the regs on the englishman anyway?Ive always heard that its closed this time of year.

Its C&R. Howd did you know it was the englishmen :). You can keep 2 hatch cutts but i just do C&R there. I did expect crowds but not that crowded. I didnt plan on keeping fish so the englishmen was just as good. Did you fish today? if so were and when? might have seen you.

hey kelly do you go up or downstream from the orange bridge?
try hot pink marabou jigs- that is if you want to catch trophies.

Secret indeed! Did anyone fish the big qualicum today? I want to try those jigs ! i read getting jiggy for coho it was cool.

don't believe everything in that article tho kelly... I have never ever caught coho on jigs unless the water is high and somewhat coloured, and i will use them in fast water as well. I have one spot on a river which is about 10 feet deep and very fast which the coho just love(kinda under a waterfall) which is mainly where i use them

I always catch my hos when the water is a tiny bit murky. Like tea. I was getting mine today in 6 feet of water fish 1 foot under the surface. They would launch themselves at it it was sweet!

Chevy, you may as well pack your beek, what a freakin circus up there.. WATCHED for a bit and went to a secret E.C. stream for a dozen chromies.. Great end to the day..-dirty

Just back from the show!things started out pretty quiet in the morning, nothin but a couple nice cutts. Further into the afternoon the newb crowd showed up and so did the ho's. Couldnt hook a fish without having 6 other lines wrapped around it. Got my 2 and got the hell outta there. A couple nice chrome bullets about 8 or 9 pounds a piece. Nothin keeps the adrenaline pumpin like fishing in the ole meat hole surrounded by a bunch of meat-heads. Another fine day at the Big Q<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>.

Chev, any chatter of fish being let up above? As of yesterday only a handful of fish are being released up above.. Noticed the ponds are now completely empty. Off to another little gem in the a.m.-dirty

dirty-i read the numbers on the bulletin board. Over 1500 ho's let above the hatchery so far. Gate was open for about 20 mins today. Good luck with your gem in the a.m.
