UVic Salmon Diet Study: Update

Hi Folks! This program began with a post on this forum back in 2016.

https://www.sportfishingbc.com/foru...ational-salmon-diet-monitoring-program.64885/

Now here we are more than 1400 Chinook and Coho salmon stomachs later with growing participation, great partners, and funding (at least for now!) thanks to the Pacific Salmon Foundation.

BUT: We still need more representative sampling in space and time. In particular WE NEED EVERY OFF-SEASON STOMACH WE CAN GET.

Instructions: Cut out the whole digestive tract of your catch and bag it with a label in pencil indicating (at a minimum) date, species, location, length, hatch/wild. Freeze as soon as possible and drop off at one of our depots (listed below) or contact us for pick-up (or drop by our lab). You can also pick up bags and waterproof data cards at these depots. Include your email address and each stomach is an entry in a draw for an Islander MR2 thanks to Islander Reels.

Hi All,

Another call for participation! In some areas we will be back in business with retention in 9 days. I hope you will consider participating in our program which is growing and yielding interesting results. A update:

1. Every angler who contributes 10 or more stomachs in 2020 will receive a program hat, each stomach is also an entry in a draw for an Islander MR2LA or AP Tackleworks Salish Sea spoon pack. Make sure you include your email address with each stomach along with key data (Species, Date, Location, Length, Hatchery/Wild).

2. Starting this year we are sending out individual data reports by email to each angler for the fish they submitted.

3. Check out this new article on the program in Island Fisherman

Hey Guys, the folks who fund our program at PSF have put together a nice "Story Map" profiling the project. Thanks to all the members on here who participate...

We now send annual individual reports to all participants... and have great annual draws (an Islander Reel and APTackleworks Salish Sea spoon pack.
