Tuna Talk

Great video of the Bamfield boys. I love that ramp at the back of the boat for hauling the tuna in. Jeff seemed to be milking his fish, that or he needs to work out more. Well done lads.

Thought the Alutecnos reels were more his pace....anyone ever checked these reels? I have, pipe-dreamingly. We thought Islanders were expensive...

or try:

http://www.everol.com/

those italians make a few reels that are, from a machining stand-point, near second to none!
Pretty sure the Alutecnos Albacore reels START around $1000

Wow I could buy 4 Avets on sale for that price and have the boat almost set up. Throw in a few existing cheaper hali rig's and be done.

Yeah I thought Islanders were expensive too. Nice reels for sure but way out of my price range:eek:.

and unnecessary too! LOL!

Have to disagree here. Completely. You could run an old Penn (as seen in the Vid, it works!), or you could upgrade to an Avet. Or you can upgrade further. I suppose it is all personal preference, and when is too much, TOO MUCH. But a Shimano Convergence catches fish, much the same as a Sage Custom catches fish.

A Trophy, or a Islander Reel. Both catch fish.

Preference, and willingness to spend I guess.

Looks like they need Osama's tips on Bleeding those pigs! We had more blood from one fish than they with 10. Really made me tingle inside though...the 4 rod dance, been there! stepping over a half dozen flopping alby's, there too!

Goddamn hell of a time!!

Thanks sculpin! this will get many views from our crew!

FB

....on the boat note, BIG FAN of the Albemarle boats. Probably one of my favorite, along with some of the beautiful Luhrs Mid 20 sportfishers...messy pants!

Must try some Tuna WCVI, have not ventured that far offshore yet................!

Thanks Sculpin
Usually at Nootka late July fishing Chinooks, any Tuna offshore at that time?
Don't recall it ever being disussed there.
Thanks, GA

This thread is about tuna talk after all. The red and black boy's headed up here to Canada to PEI and had a great trip. Friggen amazing fishing actually. Tuna capital of the world we Canadians are known for!!! I love their shock at the price of beer:D.

Check it out. The one video is wild where the guy wasn't expecting the hit lol. Drawing heavy mono sticks to see who goes first.........bucket list stuff for sure. 1200 lb. Bluefin Tuna.

Ok we all know you can't or it is very hard to get live bait up here. Here is a good thread with tips about "chunking" or throwing out dead bait etc.

If it was legal here I would chum with cutplug Herring-I did it in Mexico and the downward spiral of both the head and tail chunks worked fine on Sails.

Scuplin that does look like a trip of a life time. Not a bad price, seeing that they feed you too.

Here are a couple of vid's to help keep folks thinking of the long fins;).

C.S...had some old herring I sliced up and chucked into the prop wash....not saying it worked, but I definitely won't say it didn't!!

Someone has to keep these creatures on the mind lol!!!

That boat in the first vid is one of 5 or 6 (I'm not 100% sure) sisterships to the Sculpin. Wish a crew could have that kind of seas when your heading that far offshore. Not like the second vid.
