Actually party boats are quite popular in the States especially out of California for long (and I mean long) range trips. Oregon and Washington have alot as well. I don't know why folks slam the pukers so much up here. I know quite a few folks that got their offshore fishing start on these boats. It is a cheap way to experience it.

I haven't looked into the tuna party boats in Washington at all but read a few threads on the black and red site about the Rampage. There is probably lots of info on that site about this boat if one wanted to dig deep.
Another option is to go with a smaller operator like these guys.

Rates don't seem too bad. This guy has been a fairly steady producer for the last couple of seasons from the reports on the black and red site. Looks like he is still running for the next week or so.
Anyone know what the deal is with bringing your catch home from down South? I haven't looked into it.

I have been intending to do a WA/OR tuna run for several summers now, but never get around to it. Next summer FOR SURE. Would be way more fun with a crew of SFBC'ers.
Pretty affordable prices compared to charters up north. And a shorter run in a bigger boat.
I'm all for OBH's DIY scene, but there's not too many boats I know of around here that I'd be comfortable heading 60m+ offshore in. The big boats down south are an easier sell in my house, plus the WA/OR road trip is fun in itself.

The day trip sounds fun, the overnight would be even better.
Their season seems to range from mid July to early Oct. I'm guessing mid Aug is peak time, or maybe early Sept....before those west swells start.

Looks like it ain't gonna happen for me this year....so I am hopeful for 2012. Thanks for the tip, the Rampage site looks good. If I don't get any solid invitations from the now-experienced Bamfield crew (hint hint), then I'll probably give this a try.
Interesting they post the fish count on their site ... albacore catches look SOLID in early August.

Returning to this thread, years later. I'm too embarrassed to post it in the Tuna Talk 2013 thread....as that's become solely the land of the DIYers, who I commend on their pursuit of the almighty tuna. I finally took a road trip down to westport, surfing, kiting, and a tuna fishing charter. Went with Mark Coleman / All Rivers. That is some super fun fishing on live bait ... with the reel just zinging out line. We got 26 for 6 anglers, which is about half their average....apparently a north blow 2 days earlier caused upwelling and the water temps got all screwed up, they had to go twice as far as normal (50 miles out). Day before they only got 9....terrible day for a charter, super glad I wasn't on that one.
Would I do it again? I think so....it's a lot of money and a lot of time, but pretty amazing fishing and the eating is nice. If I was to do a charter again, I am undecided if I'd go with All Rivers (fast boat, 12 hour day trip, 6 anglers) or one of the bigger party boats (slow boat, overnight, 10 anglers, but more time on the water and possibly farther out if necessary).
As for the Bamfield and Tofino crew, and the tuna shootout gang, GOOD ON YA. I hope to connect with someone someday, when there's a spot and when I have more time to commit. Or, in future if there's Canadian charters focusing on this, I'm on it!
