There is a small fishing derby out of granville island planned for Thursday, May 8th - derby info can be found at the link below

After the derby, there is a party on Granville Island that is open to all. $40 gets you a ticket to the event that will have live music, fishing simulator, salmon ice luge, and lots of raffle prizes. You also get dinner (BBQ chicken, sausage, salmon) with sides and all the beer and wine you can drink. The derby is raising $ / awareness for PSF and the after party is just for good times. ha, yup. the derby itself is small and intended to target the downtown Van business community who are looking for an excuse to take a day off and some clients out on the water. They want to keep it small (around 15 boats max). I've asked them about opening it up to guys with their own boats as it's only fully guided boats this year. It's something they said they'll consider for next year. If that's the case I'm sure it would get a lot of interest and obviously the entry fee could come down for self-guided boats. A weekend day would make much more sense if that was the case. either way, $40 for dinner, drinks, music, etc is a good way to spend a thursday night IMO.
