'This is all optical': sport fishers slam DFO's chinook closures

Same as the groups pressuring DFO to implement SRKW closures....why is it that in Area 20 only the rec fleet was targeted for management measures? Every other group continued on...business as usual. Perception management or ?

Thought CBC did as good of job on this one as could be expected.

Why is it in area 29 they want to put in SRKW measures for the public fishery, meanwhile the shipping lane in the same area is unaffected hmm??

Think the protest did its job looks like the minister is feeling a bit of heat. Was hard hearing the stories at the protest of how people are already losing their jobs.

"Wilkinson was not in his constituency office, but in an e-mailed statement to CBC News, he said he understood the recreational fishing community's concerns.

"These new fisheries management measures are only one way that we are working to restore wild chinook salmon," he said, referring to more than $200 million that have been earmarked for habitat restoration and stock assessment under the Trudeau government."

He forgot to mention he is also doing his best to protect all the Salmon Farms that the smolts have to pass through on their way out of the SOG.
