Study to save bleeding fish

I was watching a fishing show on tv and an interesting topic was being discussed. How to save bleeding fish so they can survive a catch and release experience. The study being conducted is from Carelton University and what they’ve found is by dumping carbonated liquid directly on the bleeding of a fish, it stops. Immediately. Early stages, but very promising. They used, diet coke and carbonated lake water and both worked equally well. They say it’s all species so far, salt and freshwater. They showed a muskie being hooked, bleeding down deep by the gills. The diagnosis was it was likely a terminal wound. They dumped carbonated diet coke down the fishes mouth. Instantly the bleeding stopped, the fish revived and swam away none the worse for wear. We all have carbonated beverages with us when we fish. Keep this in mind next time you’re out for a little C & R action, especially next spring if things continue to get closed up on us. This new scientific breakthrough could be a game changer. Remember, so far anyway, it’s any carbonated beverage.
thanks all. The show it was featured on was Fishful Thinking. This episode was on Sunday on Chek TV.

Carleton study suggests Diet Coke doesn't go with fish

Pouring Diet Coke or other carbonated beverages on a fish's injured gills does not stem the bleeding, the researchers determined.
