South American Chinook Salmon

My guess is lack of predators.

Presumably the older age class fish win at the spawning game and over time you end up with a larger overall population.

Basically the inverse of what is happening here as the older fish have a much lower chance of survival due to predatory threats (humans included).

There you go, fish farms are good for chinook salmon :D

nice try Dave
this old National Geographic story said....
Chile's Escaping Fish
Staniford, of the Pure Salmon Campaign, said salmon escapes from Chilean farms are spiraling out of control.
Millions of fish reportedly escaped in a single incident last year, when an earthquake triggered a mini-tsunami that hit salmon farms in Chile's Aysen region, Staniford noted.
In addition to competing with penguins and sea mammals for prey, escapees can spread disease and parasitic sea lice that affect wild fish, Staniford added.

Too bad the industry in SA doesn't have Marty - he could write them up a briefing note that Chinook have always been there - issue solved!
