Salmon River /Vancouver Island

I'm relatively new to the North Island but I'm a bit of a Steel Head Bum. I'm planning on trying to fish the Salmon River and could use some basic info, nothing about honey holes or favorite spots.

From the little I've been able to glean via the internet, it seems like there is a lot of conflicting info out there. Posts that advise good fishing starting in late November to don't bother fishing till early March. Some good bank fishing versus only use s drift boat or pontoon boat to fish it. So please help me out! What is the skinny on the Salmon River?

Fewer fish every year/hardy worth your while.

Remember with this wonderful thing called the internet much info from years past is recycled over & over & over to 'provide content' but it's stale as last month's bread and always will be.

It once was considered great, as the middle reaches were very fishable, classic.
Then there was a flood, back in 80's perhaps and those middle reaches were all blown out, blown shallow...
I tried going there once in the 90's and I found poor access.
B.C. may be forced to change the names of some rivers...false advertising...
