Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN0080-Prawn & Shrimp: by Trap - Anticipated Opening Date 2009 Commercial Prawn Fishery

The commercial prawn & shrimp by trap fishery is anticipated to open no earlier
than May 8, 2009. Please be advised that this opening is tentative until
confirmed by issuance of a variation order accompanied by another fishery
notice announcing the actual opening date and time.

The one-week recreational closure in May for prawn & shrimp by trap in Saanich
Inlet, Stuart Channel and Alberni Inlet, to allow the commercial fishery and
spawner index sampling to start under the agreed upon plan for the high use
areas, would shift to May 8 - 14, 2009.

These dates are a change from the draft 2009/10 Prawn & Shrimp by Trap
Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP) based on the input received.

What the hell is with this? Closing rec fishing so that the commercials can fish for a week?

Ya, wouldn't want to tangle up with those pesky rec traps!

Does SFAB have a position on this?
