Running the Fish Farm Gauntlet

“Right now, across our beautiful province, juvenile pink and chum salmon are emerging from rivers and streams and migrating through our coastal waters.”
“One of the big salmon farm threats comes from the parasitic salmon lice that multiply and spread on salmon farms.”

The Fish Farms know it's a fact their sea lice kill some of these smolts.
They have posted in their own sites they are trying to peak the timing of "slice" to try and control Sea Lice while the smolts are passing by.
The debate has always been how many smolts are killed.

Pretty ironic that On Their petition page they have a public fishermen kids holding a recreational caught salmon.

The province and the feds are saying the right things. But, by leaving the FF's in the water, they are showing its just an act. They are not serious about fixing the problem. If the gov't is serious, then you'd think they would remove one of the major issues.
One only has to consider the situation in Clayoquot sound for the 2nd year in a row. Massive sea lice outbreaks with up to 33 louse per fish on the farms, all during the out migration of smolts. Last year, the issue was so bad that not many smolts are believed to have made it out alive. This year is not much different. Very sad to say the least.

It is unbelievable that based on the current restrictions put on our public fishery that the DFO is prepared to let all the coastal communities suffer severe economic hardship with the loss of thousands of jobs while at the same time allowing these foriegn multinationals to kill our Wild Salmon runs and pollute the Oceans we cherish so dearly. Just disgusting.

When you consider how concerned the gov't was about the 600 or whatever jobs they would lose if they shut down the fish farm industry as we know it when the leases were up. Amazing they haven't shed a single bit of remorse over losing the 1000's of jobs they just killed. Seems all butt backwards..
