Hello all,

I am in the market of buying a new river rod and reel. Thinking of spending around 250-300.00. What do you prefer and why. Right now looking at the Ambassador and Quantum set-ups. Will be mainly used on the Fraser and Vedder for springs and sox. Length of rod? was thinking 10'. Thanks for all your help.

I was at Hub Sports in Abbotsford a couple of days ago and they have a good deal for a rod and reel combo. I know there is a Father's Day Sale at Berry's Bait and Tackle in Richmond and they usually have good deals during the sale. Give them a call to verify.

My own personal set-up for Baitcasting (River Drift Fishing) Rods are Fenwick Graphite Rod 11'6" HMX 1165H.2 15-30 lb. and a Berkley Select Kodiak Series Graphite Rod 10' KS92F 12-30 lb. The reels I use (left hand set-up) are an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6501-C3 Reel and a Quantum 1421 MG Reel.

I use the Fenwick Rod (heavier gear) for big rivers like the Thompson and Fraser and for huge fish like Chinooks and Steelhead. The Berkley Rod (lighter gear) for Coho, Sockeye, and Steelhead. You should be able to get a good rod and reel combo for $300.00 <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>.
