Repairing lower leg Honda 15hp

Left my kicker down by mistake and booted over to another fishing hole while in prince Rupert this last week , kicker was off but after the trip we smelt burning and found it was the kicker . Tryed starting it a few times before we realized that it was leaking oil from the lower leg . Does anyone know what kind of damage I've done to the motor and rough costs on repairs ?

You indicated you left your kicker "down"--- not to beg the obvious but was it still running when you took off or shut down?

Smell of burning--perhaps the impeller blades spinning in a dry cup?

"Leaking oil"--- are you talking about gear oil or oil from the oil pan?

If you saw gear oil you might have toasted a seal in the lower unit---that can be fixed ---question is, are you mechanically inclined enough to do it yourself or will a mechanic do it for you and charge the hourly stuff

You might want to have a mechanic at least diagnose what the issue is.

Running with a motor "down" shouldn't necessarily cause ANY damage (if the motor was shut down)---maybe there were some other non-related issues?
