Fourth Annual Quamichan Lake Fishing Derby

The lure of catching some fish will bring fishers and their families out
to Art Mann Park for the Quamichan Stewards 4th Annual Fishing Derby on
Saturday April 26th from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

The Quamichan Stewards are very excited to be offering it again.
Registration is only $5.00 and there will be prizes for men, women and
children. Bring your rods, lawn chairs or boats and enjoy the great
fishing at Quamichan Lake. The local fishing community is reporting
five-pound trout being caught out of the lake regularly.

On the shore, derby spectators and participants can take part in
activities including the Freshwater Fisheries Society’s Learn to Fish
program, kid’s activities with the Cowichan Land Trust and a barbeque
hosted by the Rotary Club of Duncan.

I have to admit to 3rd place. There were only 30 entrants, and 11 trout caught...I fish the lake regularly, and have to admit that the fishing was slow! Winning fish was caught bait fishing on the bottom. I am consulting with the keen people who sponsor the derby, and will help get better advertising and arrangements for things like arranged boat trailer and vehicle parking nearby with a quick shuttle service, traffic control on the launch ramp ( two vehicles at a time possible) The prizes were good, and a great draw prize...suggestions as to how to get more people out are appreciated.

What was first prize?

The day before and day after I caught fish bigger then the winner. With more notice and info on the derby I may have chosen to come up and fish it.
