Pumpkinseed Fishing.

    Does anyone here target pumpkinseed? Last question is does it make a good eating haha.
    Heading to Vancouver island right away and I was debating on bringing small utralight rod in the arsenal

    The ditches in the Sumas prairie area between Abbotsford and Chilliwack are full of them .. you might even find a bass or two.

    I've eaten them before. Man - a lot of work for not that much meat.

    You could fish for Crappie in the sloughs.

    Lots of them in Elk and Beaver Lakes near Victoria.

    I have only ever caught 1 of them that would have been worth cleaning at eating it was like 9" or so, most of them are under 6" that I have caught. I am sure they are good to eat like regular bluegill are but are just a whole lot smaller.

    I have heard they get pretty big in there too. My dad grew up in richmond and caught one while cutthroat fishing (in Dewdney Slough I believe) that was a couple lbs. He said he had absolutely no idea what it was, and released it. He said he eventually saw a picture of one in a book and realized that was what he had caught and that it was pretty big one.
