Project Double Trouble!

That is surprising. Is that prop a 3 or 4 blade? Might be worth checking the accuracy of your tach.

The Solas rubex 14x17P was a standard run of the mill aluminium 3 blade. We have the Digital Smartcraft Gauges so it is very unlikely that my tach is of as it gets its info from the ecm.

Fair enough, I'm not familiar with that system and if its adjustable or requires calibration. Any idea how much the boat weighs now? Based on your numbers I calculate a prop slip of 5%. My understanding is 6-12% is the target but heavier/loaded boats can benefit from some more slip. Matching a prop to a boat can be a science/art, thanks for the updates as I'm sure this will help others in the future including myself. Sounds like Precision Prop is a good place to go.

awesome looking double eagle!! props! ..no pun-intended

I have no idea of the weight of the boat as it is now. It is on the heavy side but is still lighter than when we had the inboard. I would really like to try out a 4 blade now. The 15.5x13P prop turned 5100 rpm with 3 guys onboard trimmed out and 34mph

The Fuel efficiency sucked. at 3500rpm we got 11.9gph and 19gph at WOT

Will be out Sunday lurking the depths of West Van for its first official Fish down. Should be easy to spot us

Can you confirm your gear ratio? Those recent numbers come out as 0% slip..... I have been using 1.87
If that is your gear ratio then some of the numbers are off... Just trying to help
If you can, try to figure out the miles per gallon at cruise. Its a better indicator of fuel efficiency than a straight gallons per hour.

Thanks for crunching those numbers for us. It is a 1:87:1 gear case. Ya it definitely seems like something isn't adding up here. I ordered the 4 blade SS Ultima prop today, hoping for the best.

What do you think?

So here is the catastrophic failure to the new motor. I emailed and spoke on the phone to Mario who built the motor, his diagnostic is that the injector to the number 5 failed taking out the piston. I think it looks like a bolt got in there and got beat to pieces. You can actually see threads pounded into the head on the number 1 and actual threads of whatever it was imbedded into the number five piston. This just sucks because he wont take ownership and blames me for running bad gas. BS I have a brand new tank and there is no water in the fuel system at all. No alarms went off at the time of failure to top it off.

Do you mind saying how much that rebuild cost? The guy should've done something better that saying screw you. It's pretty crappy after all that work to have the boat sidelined like that. Pm sent dan.

that threaded piece looks like the leftovers of a heli-coil
Thats what I though at first as well

it was pretty cheap, only $3800
****** deal, how many hours did youy have on the rebuild? I had a 225 opti blow on me, water in the oil resivour...
smart craft gages showed 524 on the motor the day we bought it, we did a conservative break in for 10 hours and then started using it very lightly. this happened at 39 hours after rebuild.

In your second picture of the head the spark plug hole on the blown cylinder larger than the rest? Pictures can look deceiving.

salmonkiller, its just the pic...

I dont know if this is allowed but I would rather not see anyone get screwed by this guy so lesson learned. STAY AWAY from shady Mario at mgmarineoutboard. I have just found out about numerous motors blowing up that he built and other shady practices.
