Fish cost $$$, lots of $$$

It's the season where we all daydream of getting out, hooking the big one, time with the family, a trip with the boys! But please don't forget..........

If you catch one, try to put one back.

If you are looking at booking a charter, ask the lodge/guide what they do for salmon enhancement, before you book. They will be proud to tell you what they do.

Most actively participate, unfortunately, more than you think do not.

Watch for the blame game, you know, "dfo, seals, FN's, commercial, dfo again, I used to, WE (not me), they are American fish , etc....."

The people that read this forum are already highly educated on topic like this and a message like this get posted a couple times of year.

The people you need to reach out too are people that don't read fishing forums like this and are less educated on fishing topics.

Also I am not sure why you put the responsibility onto the guide. As a customer you're the one playing with the fish or harvesting the fish. Why not do something for salmon enhancement yourself rather then placing the expectation onto the guide. Or maybe the guide should just charge you a salmon enhancment fee?

A local fishing resort has been operating for 30+ years and their guides are fish killers. Know what they have done for enhancement? (0) Any guess about how many fish have been shipped out of there? Thousands.

As a guide, if I club 100 fish per year, my use of a public resource is much greater than average. I owe more, I try to put back more.

In 30+ years in the commercial sport fishing industry, I have never been asked "What do you do?" before they have booked. It comes up in conversation when fishing, but not before. I've never been asked at a trade show or by letter or e-mail.

Consumers vote with their dollars. Would you buy a shirt made by child labor in a third world country? Why go to a lodge or hire a guide that does not do their part?

(Re your last question, on my boat it's $20 per fisher donated to the closest local enhancement group)
