Dirtdog where the hell are the fish?Ive been havin a pretty **** poor year. Havent even hit 20 yet. Then again havent been out that much. Drove into the falls last monday, water was prime for fishin the bluff and not even a sniff for 3 hours!Might be back at it tomorrow.

Damn good question Chey!
Spent the last 6 days working it, arriving before light, and departing after. Hit every square inch of the best stuff many times, and even a full day in the jet. Between 3 decent rods, managed but 8 to hand for the full week's effort
The guides ain't producing the type of numbers they're used to, and nearly all we spoke with drew blanks. Yes, the odd one here and there, but nothing like we usually see at this time of year!! A buddy drifted the upper 3 times this week. results: 2 summer runs to hand, one winter hooked but LL released.

About 5 years ago, the "peak" of the run Timing appeared to shift from late January into February. For the last 3 years, this week has been IT according to my journals, and several of my buddies who track the same. Even the Top Guns are getting twitchy, numbers embarrassingly low for those who fixate on such.

Now, we're all VERY much hoping they have simply shifted slightly later again. Kinda fits with the lateness of most local salmon runs last fall... REALLY hate to think we're witnessing the Stamp heading the direction of the Gold and so many others!!!!!!!

Dispite the lack of fish, the sun brought out the anglers in hordes yesterday. Haven't seen so many on a weekday since the run peak last year. Spoke with many, and heard of a total of 5 hit, 4 landed amongst 25 or so rods! OUCH!!

Taking a few days off now before getting up the steel to hunt yet again. Hard to take the dissapointment over and over...

Cross your fingers Gentz! The sky ain't falling yet, but she's a tad shakey at this point...

Thanks for the report, Nog. Was wondering how you had been making out lately. Fishhawk8 and myself were there on Thursday as you know. Was wondering if my skills had gone rusty on me after not fishing for steel in many moons. Maybe not if you were finding it tough too. We fished for 6 plus hours without even a touch between both of us. Also, saw a few other guys around. Nobody had anything. Twas a beautiful day though so it wasn't a complete loss.

Will be back to give her another go soon.:)

thanx for the report nog... man sounds kinda grim indeed. heres another guy just hoping that the stamp is indeed a "late run" this year.

still pretty slow fishwise. Was out sunday, hooked 3 fish in 20 minutes or so in the afternoon then it went dead for the day, only landed 1 but it was a chrome wild doe pushin 12 pounds. Today went to the same spot, landed a hog buck well over 12 pounds on the 5th cast then it went dead again. Fished a lot of different areas but only found fish at one spot.

Sounds like the boy's are gettin the low water blues in a hurry.. The first three months of this fishery sounds like it was good to some ( hmmm ) and not so for others..
Seen it year after year.. There are loads of fish at the hatchery, probably due to the overabundance of rain that we received.. Spawning has started now and the numbers of fresh fish that we observed up that high tells me that these fish are bolting before the low cold water sets in.. Give it to the buggers, they know what's going on well before we do..
Time to dust off the aluminum and rigger and start hunting for some cutt's till the melt starts up.-dirty

yeah done with the steelies for the season, gunna get the boat, and trout gear ready, fishing great central friday.........let you guys know how it goes....cheers

yup, as of today my boat is officially in Bamfield until the end of September. I'll be putting most of my efforts into the salt now. Probably gonna head up in the next couple weeks to try out some feeders and maybe try for some prawns.

what kind of boat are you running chevy??

Hey Nog, what stretch of the flow did the boy's conduct their swim on.. From my vantage point, there seems to be alot of fish holding down below the hatch.. Good to see..-dirty

Good point Dog with all the high water i bet alot of fish have moved through too places they normally arent this early ash sproat lake ans so on!Sure seem too be lots of reports on here and other sites about guys posting big numbers!!Nog can you post your count figures or a link??I mean from the swim of coarse!

Just Bring it!

:)For swim numbers last monday FEB 12 four fishery swimmers recorded 400 plus steelies from below Stamp falls to the Service road pullout with only 30 of them being below the bucket !!~~~~ And guys that are fishing above the bucket area are not having any recording breaking high #'s DAY"S ~~~ WHILE most of the upper drift reports have been very bleak with a few summers and very rare winters thrown in even in the prime water ~~ But I am sure other's have a much better report than I do :)

370 fish from the Bucket to the Falls pool?If that info is correct then wow, thats a lot of fish in that stretch of river. It seems a little far fetched to me especially with the reports from the last while. I was fishing at the bucket area on monday the 12th, hooked 3 really quickly but nada after that. There definitly wasnt that many fish around. Didnt see any swimmers either but they could have been wll downstream by the time I was there.

Chevy the Numbers are true !!! 400 plus above the bucket but I think the fish in that are there have been hooked a few too many times to be fooled on regular basis ~~ Just wait for the next fresh batch to run the system and be there while they swim by !!! FISH ON !!!
