Im just wondering what you think of my new boat..its my second.
1989 Grady White
27', 9'3 beam
2x200 yamahas
2x penn downriggers
2x vhf radios
depth sounder
16 mile radar
loran navigation system
stove
sink
salt + fresh wash down

Also, does anybody know if there is a Loran system out here, and where i can buy the chips if there is one? Thank-you

I think my 14 footer with the 30 could out perform it<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> ok maybe not. Nice boat!

There is a gps/chartplotter, but it has a loran system for back up. IM getting the boat from a fair ways away though, so im wondering if theres loran stations up here so it is useable.

Do you not have to get it moved by a company though around here cause it is oversize? Because it is too wide! Nice boat for morage but two feet shorter you would have been better off if you like to trailer it!

Check the transom carefully-Grady Whites doesn't encapsulate it's stringers and rotten transoms in late 80 Grady's are common.
Not to rain on your parade but be careful.

Canada does have loran stations along our coast. However they are going by as the age of the dinosaur in technology. Gps is now where it's at. As for the forecast to how much longer they will be in use and/or maintained I'm not sure. A good source would be the latest edition of 'Sailing Directions'. This is a book put out by the fed's and is a source of valuable information for all boaters in my opinion. It's one of those things that is always handy to have...Money well invested.

I personally carry a hand held as a back-up for my main unit.

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!.

Btw;

Heed Rodbreakers advice. Quite a few builders had problems in the late 80's. Sad to say this was one of Grady's.

Nice boat! It's only nine inches over width. I wouldn't even worry about that on a trailer - Just don't expect the Explorer to do it!. You'll need something w/ a full frame and as/more important big breaks to get her stopped, She will be heavy. That's a 'fur-sure'.

I think this boy will be out shopping for a one ton dually next!.

You can purchase a daily or monthly over sized vehicle permit for her from motor vehicles to be completely legal for go'n down the road. If memory serves me well it's slightly over $100/month and for that size I don't believe you would be restricted to daylight hours. As for over height restrictions 13'6'' is the magic # from the ground to the highest point. Radar mounted on an arch is a common problem w/ that boat style but there are ways of doing it.

Grady's are a nice run'n boat. Congrat's!.

Dean.
