Everyone who possibly can should be supporting Krog in his aspirations to becoming Nanaimo's next mayor!!

"That’s because if Krog goes for it — and sources tell me he’s ready, willing and raring to go — it would set up a crucial byelection in which the governing NDP-Green alliance’s hold on power would be put on the line.

“If the NDP lost that byelection, it would be curtains for the government,” said Liberal strategist Mike McDonald."

Kroger would get a raise in pay becoming Mayor vs being a backbencher. Would a solidly NDP riding like Nanaimo vote out the NDP? That seems a bit unlikely but in a byelection you never know. The greens might not run a candidate to help the NDP out as well.
What would Plecas do. Hes already a dead man sitting after having taken the speakers job. He might as well become an NDPer, but hard to govern with the speaker needing to decide all the votes if Nanaimo were to flip.

I second your motion. Fingers crossed, news said he has a press conference Wed? Then the liberal voters have to speak loud.

Announcement by Krog possible Wednesday. Weaver says greenies will run a candidate, which is good news, makes it possible for a liberal upset.

Nanaimo is about to have the most leverage it has ever had. The current provincial government majority depends on it.

The people of Nanaimo i believe have an opportunity to get what ever they want out of the government. It will be interesting to watch this race and see what carrots get dangled out.

Nanaimo got squat for 16 years of liberal rule unless you count the ferry corp, BC hydro and ICBC all jacking up fees.
Don't hold your breath waiting for this NDP stronghold to flip if there is indeed a bye election.

I think most assume the NDP will be voted in again, However that does not mean the people of Nanaimo should not try to get out what ever they want out of the NDP.

for example: people in Nanaimo could say "if you don't get rid of the fish farm leases we will not vote for you" and really what choice does the NDP have but to listen.

Best not waste this once in a life time opportunity

Thinking we will be better off with the liberals is insanity.

Thinking you are better off with this twisted coalition is true insanity!
Amazing how many here have blinders on when it comes down to what negatively effects them.
I suppose if you're a latte sipping man-bunned resident of the LML insane asylum it might work for you.
Anyone else, not so much...

If you care just a little bit about the environment, and our rec fishery what did the Liberals do for you? So far as I can see, that is squat. I wasn't much for the NDP, but the Liberals under Christy were horrible. Willing to give someone else a try, because quite frankly a chipmunk could do a better job than the last group of Liberals.

The fact is again and it really sucks is that there always isn't a real 3rd party contender. I still find it humorous that our community really determined the election outcome. Had Shawnigan fiasco not happened Sonia woudl never have ran for office for Greens. I don't like Green policies ( 90 percent of them) but the biggest one they are doing right now with overhaul of professional reliance model is a good one. If liberals get in again it will same old guard in there as last time. Anyway we will probably get shut down as we don't talk politics on here.

Sorry searun. When last Gov was in power I could fish more, catch more and fish many more places, limits were higher, gas was WAY cheaper, taxes were WAY less, my annual assessment increased (not current NDP plan). Now people blame our problems on past Gov. Not saying they did anything to help and yes still pissed at PM Harper as he had the OP to change our outdoor passions and make better and choose not to. As for environment. Do you really think the NDP have made it better??? My glass ball says that if we suffered with 15 years of NDP we would NOT be Tidal water fishing. Look closely at threads on here, we all understand Sport Fishers are NOT the problem but we are the only ones under attack from both Governments. Still no solutions to the real issues, that IS different from the last Gov.

Could someone tell us how great the last government was on the steelhead file? After all the province has jurisdiction on that fish and so controlled their fate.

Working both mining and forestry over the past 12 years, my witness to the provincial Liberals was to exploit resources and run a service fee pay for play government. Reduced taxes was cool, but dumping the burden of provincial payment plans by running tolls, healthcare fee's, gas taxing, ext. really wipes out the middle class at some point... Then on top of that to exploit foreign money in our biggest city center where the majority of jobs are. Forcing homes ie: my parents home in Richmond circa 2005 est $450,000 circa 2010 est $1,000,000 circa 2018 @ $1.9 million. Yes our last government didnt try and make fast ferries - but I think the residual mess will mean less residents affording to have kids and families...therefore more reliance than ever to keep importing our population to sustain future growth. My view is strictly from a National security stand point. I'm saddened to see what happened to Vancouver - I could go on - Casino laundering, health care cheats, abuse of education grants to rich migrants. Yes vote Liberal because someone with a hair bun voted NDP and you need to be the contrary to how you see yourself.

I guess my point is, what we created by importing a new face to BC - No one will give a F$%# about your opinion Nog. Your voice will dim and just be a tale of local folklore. LOL - Im no politician, but for real, I now live in Nanaimo and watching the same thing happen, no jobs created, no wages increase, yet import foreign money is jacking home prices out of local citizens affordability. Maybe thats a good thing if you own a home. I do own, but keep losing good neighbors.
