Mercruiser 140 Yolk coupling

Hey All,

Had an unfortunate event on the water last weekend running back from Sherringham in some rougher water. I believe my yolk coupling or something in that vicinity stripped. The motor basically slipped and made a loud "ZInnnggggggg" and wouldn't go into forward or reverse. So we shut it down and ran the kicker back into Sooke. Its a mercruiser 140 and I believe it is a 2nd generation (I think its a 1986). I can look in behind the motor and see the shaft and some wear marks as well as some metal filings. I also found some old fishing line in behind the prop but dont think that would have a huge effect on anything, but probably didn't help the situation.

Does it sound like I have diagnosed this problem correctly ?

I have heard you need to pull the whole leg off as well as possibly pulling the motor out. What shops around victoria are reliable and relatively cheap as I think this bill might be a shoe in the nuts from behind.

Appreciate the help

There is a hub on the back of the engine with rubber that can spin out the same way a prop can.
I have several cheap if that turns out to be your problem.
