Personally I will never buy a new stainless crab trap. Too expensive and its hurts the pocket book when they " take legs". I just buy the vinyl coated wire trap for cheap ( sometimes as cheap as $19 if you watch for deals ) . They will last for years if you rinse the saltwater off them. And I add weight to them to help stick them to the bottom.
These are what I use.Finding more and more as I open the cage to release crab ,the wire welded frame attached to the wire your pulling on breaks as you pull to open ,and a nice rusted bit of weld at slides through your grip and cuts you or tears your glove.Might try this year leaving top hooks loose and hold side in place with black bungy strap.to hard to fish crab while bleeding one handed.
