Hook sharpening

Dull hooks were mentioned (on a current thread) as the reason for many lost fish & I started wondering if
this is a common problem.
I bought several hook sharpeners over the last few years & none were worth the coin I laid out for them.
Last year I got disgusted & tried a few different things. The best was a thin piece of hardwood about 1/8” X 3/4” X 8” with wet / dry sandpaper glued to both sides, using spray contact cement. I used 600 on one side & 800 on the other. I’ve tried a few different grits & these worked best for me. I can get hooks sharper than new with this.
This spring I glued the same grits to a 6” SS ruler & it works even better.
I gave one to my son-in-law & he likes it too!
So... if you’re frustrated trying to get your hooks sharp, give this a try. Works fo me.
I’d be interested in hearing how other folks keep their hooks “sticky” sharp.

Dremmel in a vise. Super fast and super effective. Sharpen until they pierce through a finger nail easily, not just sticky sharp like new packaged hooks.

What works for me is to use a stone (don't like files as they rust too quickly), to make it sticky sharp on my fingernail each time I put something new out on my line - simple quick, easy, effective.

Admin will prolly move this thread.
I like your ideas and efforts, very good.
a lot cheaper than a wet stone, and more compact, won't break when dropped.
