Halibut Help

I’m still new at this halibut thing and have been skunked about a dozen times now. Soooooo, I have a bunch of questions.

I’m pretty sure I am doing most things right so I think it must be location. (Fish Constance mostly but have been to Albert and William head a few times also) Is it true that when I anchor up I want the back of my boat to be facing deeper water?

I assume that the current direction will determine where on the bank to fish for that day. I have been choosing my spots using Garmin’s BlueChart V6.5 and am thinking that it may not have enough detail.

Also what depth should I be looking for 120 ,140, 180, ??? Also, do you guys use those glow-in-the-dark sticks? Do you attach this to the leader end on the spreader bar or what?

Finaly when is the peak time for Halibut? Will it improve in the summer months?

I think my next step is to bring binoculars and then move in on somebody’s spot when I see them with one on. (lol)

Any help, thoughts, comments is greatly appreciated.

T angler;
Do a search on this site, just punch up halibut and hang on!.

Hali's are on NOW. As we get into the heat of summer they usually start to taper off, then pick up again late summer/early fall

Fishing for them should be good through the end of June. Then slow down somewhat until Sept. This year is looking particularly good. Try the 250-350 ft water.

And oh, by the way, nothing wrong w/ them Garmin BlueCharts. I use them as well. Do you have the unit set to show maximum detail?. It's amazing what a press of a button can do!.

Good luck in your quest. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!.
