green party ,, your thoughts

The problem with any of these parties is that they are not legally bound to come through on anything they said before an election. Time and time again they renege on promises once they are in....or even do the exact opposite. It is perfectly legal to get elected on 100% ********. Maybe the Green Party has good intentions....or maybe it doesn't. How would we ever know beforehand? Sounds very good on the face of it....but I'm not holding my breath, that's for sure......

No thanks, too damn many socialists in this province already. Not prepared to "share the wealth" any more than I already have.

Nice platform to return Fisheries to the small local Communities. Pipe dream for sure, but nice idea none the less.

Wow......that's some serious pipe dreams!

"How" do they intend to do all of these things? Hahahaha.....good luck.

Talk about setting yourself up for broken campaign "promises". :p

IMHO.....voting Green ESPECIALLY Provincially is an absolute waste of a vote. They will never get anything done, plain and simple.

If someone was going to buy in to all that they state in the aforementioned link.....I have an acre of water in the middle of Georgia Strait I want to sell you. :p It's some SERIOUS waterfront and can all be yours at a truly UNBELIEVABLE LOW PRICE!!!

if anyone was to buy into any parties statements, i also have an acre of water for sale....if i vote green,,,,,part of the reason would be for protest.. better than an non-vote?

"The Green Party of BC would create a more regionally sensitive coastal marine fishery by negotiating with the federal government for a transfer of fishery jurisdiction from the federal to the provincial level. "

"Negotiate"! With what?? Saying "dad can I gt a raise in my allowance", and dad saying no - is NOT a negotiation.

Why would the feds ever want to - or even be legally able to hand it off to the province? Ain't gonna happe..

Ugh....I wouldn't say so unless you were not going to vote to begin with. That is just one more silent protest which won't see any air time except for 10 seconds from Baldry's mouth.

would't it be nice if parties didn't matter - and te government was run by all the elected reps? Look at how Nunavet does it..

Yup!!

I could write pie in the sky wishes as well on any and all issues....they sound wonderful for 5 seconds til reality kicks them in the junk.

It's easy to make campaign promises when you don't have fulfill them, lol.

Guys what the hell am I reading this policy has everything I could ever ask for in a fish policy if they do even 20% of that we will be miles ahead.

I honestly can't believe it here's somebody who says I want the chance to fight for you and they get **** on because their too small no chance.

Everyone read the link READ it then think hard about voting when it's time.

IMHO it is a waste of time to keep voting for the same big, long established, political parties and expecting things to change in any big, positive or progessive way. If you want big changes then vote for a party that is promoting big changes and then hold them accountable!

One thing is for sure, if you vote for more of the same old bullsh!t, that is what you will get!

Wow I can't believe you guys putting down the Green Party that is abdolutely the best wild fish policy I have ever read. It's everything most of us have wished for yet those very same people are putting them down as pie in the sky dreamers.

Guess we might as well give up hey? Keep voting in the parties with huge corporate backing who will always promote those corporations because its the big money that gets them in not the votes.

One day the 70% who don't vote will show up and when they do I hope they will be asking for change. Green is change. No I don't believe they can do it all especially in one term but I do believe if they ever did get in its for the right reasons unlike the other parties some guys will vote for.

Just if you don't vote or if you do vote for more of the same no more whining ok? Vote liberals or NDP to keep DFO in Ottawa keep fish farms reduce fishing oppurtunities along with a whole host of other issues.

If you want a change try voting for somebody different it would be great to get green into a few ridings they need to have a voice and the other parties need to know voters are paying attention and do care.

Couldn't agree with you more GDW! A good definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result.

GDW......I agree that fish policy sounds outstanding!! But there is the pragmatic side of me that knows darn well that the policy/ideas outlined in that original link are 100% UNDOABLE. Sounds great and all but what good is holding the 'hypothetically' elected Green Party to a fishing mandate that any realist knows is completely unattainable. I'd challenge you to print out that exact page and ask a Green Party member TRULY how realistic it is?

  • You think the Feds are going to give up control of fisheries......to the Provincial Green Party?? You do realize if the Feds did that the MASSIVE hornets nest they would be opening up right across Canada in many different sectors?
  • Ask what "eco-system based principles" are that will apparently "established for a fishery based on maintaining all stocks at stable levels in intact habitat"??
  • Note that they are only mentioning removing the salmon feedlots from migration routes; that does not imply getting rid of them altogether.
  • I do wonder how recently this "Fisheries Statement of Intent" is as their "fast facts" are quite dated?

I have no problem calling what they are proposing as "pie in the sky" as even IF they ever did get into power provincially what they are proposing is only partially doable at best.

Fishery issues is something we all feel very strong about but I for one also feel VERY strongly about where my vote goes based on the good of the economy in this Province. If our economy tanks.....it's more than our fisheries that are going to be our problem. Just looking at the Sportishing Industry they have been hit hard enough with the strength of the Canadian dollar.....add to that a LOCAL economy that is in shambles and there goes even more of the business. I don't know about you.....having a job, providing for my family and putting a roof over their head comes before fishing; if cuts have to be made it's going to be in people's recreational/leisure activities.

Unfortunately for those of us who love to fish, are passionate about the resource and industry......Fisheries are well down the list of priorities/election issues in this province; like it or not.

Good point - while the greens may not win a vote for green isn't a wasted vote. What is does is send a message to the big parties that environmental issues are important and if they want my vote they need better policies in place. In the event of a close election the big guys will look at how they can recover some green party voters.

But then again its all ********....

Voting for the Greens because of their policies on fisheries might seem like a good idea until you go to pay for the boat fuel you're going to need to go out and catch the fish. Of course, I suppose you could always row out to the west coast...
