Don't know if I've seen you, but there's one or two other of these catamaran style designs in Sooke. I'm curious about them...good ride? Good on gas?

jaundesooka
Its a zeta cat and it burns 9.5 gal of diesel at 20kn.
No bounce or bangs in most water of one to two foot chop.

So what's the catch, why aren't we all in them?
I'm betting there's a pretty penny to be paid. ;)
Nice ride!

My DE before launch, need pics in action around Van.

Funny you say that, as a matter of fact it is from the west island side gaurd at some point, nicely re done though and I love it and have tested it's water worthiness and fish catchability!! Cheers. Now on the mainland serving the vancouver coast as a fishing vessel.

Yeah thought so Jimbo there was one up for auction here in Victoria about 4 years ago.It had that same motor well.Double Eagle or the Coast Guard must have converted them from the standard inboard configuration.Sure was nice and roomy. She's a beauty, nicely done.Dan

I operated a potrol position from one of those old red Double Eagles. Transport Canada updated to a new Arima for watching over our inner harbour here in Victoria. Good to see she is still getting her time on the water and someone is getting to put her to good use!

Yeah Dan, pretty sure mine is the boat you saw.I am not sure of any signs of it being an inboard, however there is a beefed up keel and the transom is insanely thick and even is reinforced with steel across the transom within fiberglass.I am pretty sure this was one of those inner harbour boats, I heard that somewhere. Thanks guys, I love this boat and try to sweetify it more and more as I can.;)

I heard Catarmanan boats are safe and capable of travelling through rough seas..for example: a large catarmanan ferry sailed across from Africa to an island in a storm at high speed. Most passsengers didn't get seasick and said "what a smooth ride!"

I follow the east coast boat market quite extensively, and cats have really taken off in the last 6 or 7 years. Ive ridden in a 26' glacier bay and was really blown away at the the ride, we were flying by boats of all sizes in a pretty rocking sea.
The only thing i dont like about them isthe feel while under cruise, theres no hole shot for say, you just stay level and rise up out ofthe water a little bit, but theres no feeling that your riding ontop of it- but that also gives you the great ride i suppose.

Glazier Bay cats are semi displacement hulls so they do not plane
Mine is a planning hull so the ride is a little different
You are right once a cat owner you will not go back, the ride is realy great you can do 65 KPh over a 3 to 4 chop without any banging
You can have three people on one side of the boat and no big leans, the only draw back you can get tunnel slap when trolling

I have an ongoing, simmering case of 2 foot-itis...but this thread is causing it to flare up big time. I really like the look of those cats, and I want one. Once I win the lottery, that'll be my first purchase (after I get back from 6 months in Hawaii).

Here's one that seems pretty well priced...best deal I've seen so far.

[and sorry for thread hijack...maybe we should create a "I heart Cats" thread in boats forum, move these posts over there]
