Fish Finder Question [?]

I was thinking of buying a dual frequency fish finder until I read that a dual frequency sounder (50 & 200 mhz) is great for deep sea/off shore uses it is not so good for inshore use as the 50 mhz transducer will not distinguish fish from the bottom in shallower depths.

Is this true? Does anyone have any information on this? <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thanks for your replies.<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

Trust me I spent hours not happy with my sounder then poof I found the best set-up for my f.f. and have never changed it yet and it's proven it's self over 400lbs fish fold not saying it did it but everything helps!!!!

Good topic. I have a Garmin 100 Blue which I installed on a newer boat 2 years ago. Im not happy with it. I dont think its accurate in regards to picking up fish or bait. I hardley ever see indications of bait. On my former boat I had a Hummingbird, simple to operate, simple instructions and I did see bait clouds. Your reference to tuning it up is probably the clue here. I use the DUAL PURPOSE ie 50-200. Maybe thats wrong. The instruction book to me is like a dogs breakfast but so is my VCR instruction.
Any further tips I appreciate.

Whole in the Water & Otter I spent countless hours and many holes in my boat moving my transducer around but that wasn't the problem it was my settings.
What I really like is eagle has a program that you can download it's a simulator that works and you can play with all your settings without wasting valueable time out on the boat screwing around and getting frustrated. Anyone can download free these simulators and test out all the features before they buy any of there units at eaglesonar.com One thing that I found is using one frequency at a time is the only way to go. Another thing is turn off your fish id
and you will have more on the display it filters alot of things out for some reason. Now I do use some of the filters on min. when in shallower water 20 to 100 feet to provide better clarity. I do use my fish id when in very fishy waters but not when I'm hunting for bait.
I now can read bottom up to 600 ft in salt water and don't lose bottom even at 25 mph. Hope this helps.

Ah a good topic,
Unless you are willing to spend big bucks most sounders are only good at picking up the depth. I sounder will pick up anything and tell you its a fish, even bubbles.
Just my 2 cents

A'YUP, The MadDog has a new platform! After a eventful trip on Friday and 1500kms on the diesel i got her home with the Knobbies on the trailer tires! from Oregon. That I-5 sucks ****and 145$ on that Ferry across. As per topic, my lowrance lcx-15 is in need of a navionics chip as it only has the basic detail mapping. I have heard there is a new chip that will cover the whole island for a steep fee of 360$ at Fitters, PpFfTt. Uncle Roy??? Whats your unit have for mapping interface mb goodies?
