Not doing anything this Fathers Day Weekend? Come on up to the Club at Comox Lake and catch some trout for dinner........ Free hotdogs and drinks courtesy of Thrifty Foods as well. All gear provided (bobber fishing setup) if you get there early --9-4 Sat and Sun

Well now-- Day ONE of Fathers Day Family Fishing Weekend has finished at the Courtenay Fish and Game pond.. Tomorrow we do it all over again until 4 pm . Its been several years since the trout have willing eaten themselves into a cooler and back to the family BBQ! Talk about cooperative fish! Easy quick 2 fish limits /per person ( that includes Mom and Dads and anyone else that showed up!) in the morning. Even during the afternoon doldrums, the fish kept biting! There was a nice mix of sizes from the Duncan Fresh Water Fisheries Society hatchery... big enough to impress even the Dads that had fished for years. We also gave away a dozen rod and reel combos to kids that really got into the fishing stuff! ( courtesy of the Family Fishing Society) Tomorrow, we have about 35 more combos to hand out to enthusiastic kids .
Sounds great?? It was, but the numbers of families was down for the second year in a row. The Thrifty Foods volunteers that served up free hot dogs and free pop were under utilized as well. Some serious head scratching now--- It will be discussed in detail during the coming months of where the fisher person are going.... But we are hoping for a better turn out tomorrow. The weather is forecast to improve (more sun) . We will see how things work out---- If you dont have a plan tomorrow-- this is an opportunity to have a fun Fathers Day.

Well Sunday was awesome! A lot of hopeful anglers... most of which caught fish. Our club handed over a cheque for $2000.00 to Craig Shelter , hatchery chief from the Fresh Water Fisheries Society. The money will go to programs like the "Learn to Fish" program, inventory and possibly community awareness of the great opportunities for fresh water fishing we have in BC. Also, the manager of the Courtenay Thrifty Foods store, Andy Carter, drew the winning ticket for a trip for two to anywhere that WestJet flies. It was won by a lucky lady from Comox. A great day all told.
