Am a novice downrigger. Fish St. Lawrence River and do not know how to use downriggers. Have set that came with a second hand boat I bought. Want to know how to rig cable to fishing line. Any help will be appreciated.

What you need in order to be able to attach your line to the downrigger is called a line release.

One end of the line release attaches to the downrigger cable and the other end has a clip that holds the line and carries the line down to the desired depth.

Here in British Columbia most people use Scotty downriggers.
