DFO finally does something about poachers.

Theres a cutwater 30 in tofino that's fully rigged for tuna so it must work decently for fishing. The 26 seems a lot smaller on the rear deck but I've never fished on either boat. Something about a 30 multipurpose rig with a pod that will do 40 knots sounds damn sweet to me. That thing is probably $350k.

Just an FYI to all, there are many many cutwaters on our coast that look identical to this boat. I don't see any super obvious unique identifiers on this one so don't go putting a pitchfork in the next cutwater you see, although you'd probably be doing them a favour.

Out of 14 days I was in Nootka this year (July). I saw the RCMP at least 8-10,times, DFO maybe twice, Coast Guard daily and........ we even had Canada Customs up there with their new 500 HP Zodiac. Ya, Canada Customs (that’s weird right). I’d say for the remoteness the oversight is pretty good up there and the guys do a pretty good job.

I had an offer on one. So glad I didn't buy it. 9.5 foot beam on a 30' boat. Water damage all over the interior from leaks. It sunk twice while the offshore owner let it sit in the river. Amazing boats on the show floor, they check a lot of boxes for sure. Especially the podded ones as you said, 60 mph WOT.

If you look at similar offences seizing the boat and sending it to auction would be way more than anyone has got in the past. Odds are there fine will be 15k or less. There biggest cost in the end will probably be their legal fees.

We need more of this enforcement. We have enough laws - too many politicians, spend the tax money on enforcing the rules we have.

wondering the same thing. also apparently three guys. they shouldn’t have mentioned lings either unless they were undersize? am i missing something

The Lings and Rock fish should also have had their tales attached to one side of the fish's fillet in order for catch identification and to have met the packaging/transport regs.

Maybe Canada should take note of how Indonesia deals with these kinds of situations:

That's awesome. Can you imagine the years of studies then the studies of those studies then the referendum and then compensation to those that apposed it then the study on how the compensation impacted those people and then an official inquiry post kaboom it would take to do that here?!

ah yes. of course. tails on for id and measurements. missed that in the pic. thanks!

This case seems to be getting more than the normal amount of media coverage. Might be the perfect time to hit these guys hard and let that message fan out to others who do similar.

The 30' Cutwaters have plenty of room on the deck to fish. That model is worth about $330 000 new.

Blowing up or burning the boats in the water seems like it would create a number of environmental issues that might, in fact, be worse than the over fishing. :)
