Colombia River Walleye

hey. Just read about this fishery. anyone try it before? any places to bush camp in may since all the campgrounds are still shut? thanks

I did it once-quite straitforward just a white or yellow jig head and a twister tail/grub pulled slow along the bottom.

Be Real Careful about fishing too close to other people there are the 'sensitive kind'.

No idea about campgrounds sorry.

Many private campsites will be open.
We stayed at Kooteney river RV park right on the river.
You can tie your boat up to shore right there.

  • Great fishery. Been going up for the last 10 years or so. Fly fishing for trout gets good in the spring and walleye fishing can be great by May. Streamer patterns work extremely well for early months. Small town called Genelle has a spot to launch and park a vehicle if your bringing your boat up. It’s a great access point to a ton of good holes, both towards Castlegar and Trail. If you are jigging just make sure your using enough weight to get down, 1/2 ounce works well in many colours. As Dogbreath mentioned, The key to good fishing up there is to follow water levels and try and get stable levels. Anytime those water start to fluctuate a fair amount it really slows things down. Here is an article on the area that’s decent...https://www.bcfishn.com/kootenay-walleye/
Another good resource to track water levels and activity around that area.
