"CHUBBY" mods/projects

I use my GPS alarm set my battery switch to 1 battery to save 2nd battery for staring and hit they hay. I never had that great of sleep on the hook!

What is common night time anchoring practise? GPS drag alarm, human drag watch, or throw the anchor over, hit the rack and hope for the best?

Set the anchor properly-watch the boat for an hour or so. Set the shallow and deep alarms based on your situation-close all thru hulls-go to house battery only-set the gps drag, anchor light on(white mast light) and go to sleep. The shallow- deep alarm might sound because of bait fish-especially if you have your anchor light on. In the summer there is only 5 hours nightime for sleep anyway-afternoon naps rule!!! lol

I carry an extra shackle that I attach in place of the zap straps depending what I want to anchor for.

cheers

I have seen that done before, but have never bothered with it myself, and maybe I should start using that system....like you said spring fever, it may save some tears the day the rode needs to be cut!!! HAHA

well there is more to it then hoping for the best, definitly something you develop a skill and trust for, first off you have to know your ground tackle, and what bottom you are placing it in...many different types, personally I love the Rocna, Bruce is nice too, simular holding in mud/sand but the Rocna sets quicker, then there is chain, IMO very important, rule of thumb is the length of your boat, I at least double it...45ft on my 19ft boat.

as for procedure, what I do is drop anchor, pay out rhode while backing down (usually backing towards shore)this helps from chain piling/tangling and fouling anchor...alow at least 3/1 scope out and tie off/or stop the windlass, keep backing down until the the anchor is set, the boat will stop moving, a little shot of throttle and back to nuetral, when you feel the rope load up tug/spring you back forward, you know you are set...I dont set a drag alrarm...I trust my ground takle, to make it budge when properly set, the water conditions would not exactly be comfortable enough to sleep in

If you Google it there is many good articles on how to anchor and what ground tackle is best for what bottom conditions etc.

yep, that's the chubby up at Lac la hache, towed it the 550km for one of my best friends memorial fishing derby, as he died in a motorcycle accident 4 years ago at the age of 25

His parents organize the annual "Jesse LeRiche fishing derby" at their cabin to get all the friends and family together to remember, and create new memories...its a blast getting everyone together.

its turning into quite the event, currently sponsored by kokanee (who supply the keg), lordco, Canadian tire, and many more and growing every year!!

here's a couple pics from the 2013 derby

Nice boat, CZ.
I drive by it everyday. Kids yell out "THE CHUBBY" everytime. And it doesn't get annoying.

yes, I have seen the "too chubby", I have been in contact with Frank, he is a nice guy. he has sent me some pics.. It is a beautiful rig for sure...I really like the layout he went with.
