Yes there's some but fish they are relatively small and not plentiful.
Try http://www.fishingwithrod.com for info.
You'll have to wait for the water to warm up a bit-too cold right now.

that's why there's a warranty!

I hear there are significant carp in Elk lake on Vancouver Island. One guy told me that the fish they spotted was big enough to scare his girlfriend while she was kayaking with him on the lake last summer.

No experience with them myself yet, but I plan to try worms on the bottom by the lilly pads this summer ... who knows what I'll find in that lake?
... catfish, carp, bass, coho?

Of note though: I hear that you cannot fish with corn or chum the water, as is common for carp, in trout lakes because the corn gets stuck in their digestive tract.

If anyone knows for sure, post a clarification.

I recently visited the Alouette River in Maple Ridge in pursuit of Steelhead. An angler there caught what I assume is a decent sized carp (approx 5 lbs)in the fairly fast run we were fishing, and told me that in the Spring and Summer the lower end of the river actually has lots of them and they get "at least twice as big as this one".

He also told me that guys "hunt" for them with bows and arrows. Not much opportunity for catch & release there!

My assumption is that a fish that is set up to basically suck mud off the bottom isn't going to be much for table fare, yet I hear they are considered a delicacy in some middle European countries.

Not that intend to go after them (I'm a completely confirmed salmonid snob) but to satisfy my curiosity... has anyone eaten a carp lately?
