Not sure how it works on first Nations land but no one owns the land below the high tide mark on non native land. I have not problem using the nice beach on the south west corner of Chatham to strechs my legs. The keep off signs are posted above the high tide mark.

I would suggest you figure out how the currents move and use that to plan your trip too. 10kts into a strong tidal rip is ugly in a 14.

If you don't have a GPS on board the Navionics app on your phone or a tablet is phenomenal. $15 one time and the Rockfish Conservation Areas are now included. Currents and tides are also included.
