Best Hook Size? etc.

Being a relative newby and resisting the use of bait for trolling the last few seasons ,I have decided to give it a try this year and could use a little advice on the best hook size and brand/model etc. for tying up some double hook leaders for fishing a whole or cut plug herring. Thanks

3/0 singles tied in tandem...Gamakatsu Octopus for Medium Herring. Keep the sport in sport fishing. :)
4/0 is nice too... as is larger like 5/0 on large herring.

Yup what he said. Match the hook to the bait doesn’t have to be big hooks

One of my dads old friends used to burry #4 trebles into the herring when mooching. He would wait an eternity to set the hook. Waiting for the fish to swallow the bait...” he’s not going to spit that hook out” was his favourite line

Winter fishing, Use single 4/o on spoons and tandem single 4/o on hoochies.

for summer chinook Anchovies in teaser head rigged with tandem trebles, Size 2 and a size 4 stinger. 4x strong gammies

For sockeye a single size 5/0 or 6/0 in a MB hoochie

Thanks for replies, just tracked down some Mustad SS 4/0 octopus beak hooks and ordered some 5/0's, found a decent/easy way of tying good snell knots,
got a supply of herring frozen in water that is ready for brining, so we're getting close to liftoff. Rock on....
