So sent a letter to DFO asking WTF basically re salmon fishing this summer this is what I got back... so basically in a nut shell coast is ****** again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Currently it is Chinook non-retention in Areas 19 and 20 until further notice and this includes hatchery-marked Chinook.

As a reminder the 2019 plan had non-retention through July 15 (Subareas 20-1 and 20-2) and July 31 (Area 19 and Subareas 20-3 to 20-7) and also included no salmon fishing measures for 20-3 and 20-4. Until the 2020 plan is approved by the Minister we will be continuing with the 2019 measures.

Please feel free to email me again in the next couple of weeks. DFO hopes to have the plan approved and published in June.

Also may I suggest signing up to receive fishery notices which will send email notifications when there are announcements based on the fisheries/species you choose when signing up. You can do that here:

Thank you

Absolutely right. DFO current stance has nothing to do with science based management and decision making it is ALL about politics. We in the public (rec) fishing sector need to fully realize this and stop fighting amongst ourselves and start getting politically active like the ENGO's and FN's and start pushing our side of the story and fast. Time to stop talking and start getting active before we lose our public fishery. We can do this if we want!

@wolf I suggest if you haven't done it already join the Public Fishery Alliance? They're fighting access issues like this one! https://publicfisheryalliance.ca/membership-sign-up/
