several weeks ago my wife and I were in port townsend and walked past the rose theatre. a poster announcing an upcoming event, a free showing of 'salmon confidential' caught our eye. we picked up tickets and have just come home after listening to Alex Morton and watching a very disturbing film on the salmon farm issues. I am astonished at the cover up by your government officials as well as the lack of media attention to this critical issue. I am not aware of what happened in your last election, but unless you can get the Harper government out along with all of the government shills covering up the obvious, the salmon are doomed. I will do my best to make sure this critical film gets a bigger audience around our area. you have a rare individual in Alex and I just hope all of you are sending her cash to the best of your budgets ability.

The salmon are doomed according to reports ...but if DFO and "Harpo" have their way, the salmon will be readily available ....for a price.........

These farms flourished and continued under our provincial liberal government. Yet overwhelming majority vote again!..

ps You dont have to be Canadian to support a good cause!

I suspect your'e trolling but just in case your'e really that naive, perhaps you should start bitching about your own backyard; what are you doing about Puget Sound salmon farms? Oh, you didn't know Washington has salmon farms, eh ... LOL!
Oh yeah, Ms. Morton is rare and people still send her money; other people throng to Stonehedge on June 21 and still others actually do important things for wild salmon habitat restoration.
Stopping killing them, by all user groups, might help as well.

Doesn't sound like trolling to me, perfectly appropriate comment from a neighbour. Thank you Washington for the great hatchery programs keeping our sport fishing opportunities in BC alive.

Dave

I think most of are astute enough to figure out who the real trolls are on here.

That would be those who spend an inordinate amount of time on a SPORT FISHING forum and never actually contribute anything about SPORT FISHING.

That would be those who continuously monitor a SPORT FISHING Forum with the single minded purpose of attacking and countering anyone who posts anything about the risks of the Atlantic salmon open net pen industry in order to protect the profitability of foreign corporations.

That would be those who now feels protected and comfortable enough to attack a long time member of this forum and the SPORT FISHING Community because they have the temerity to post about their impression of Alexander Morton’s work. I know that Morton scares the hell out of the industry because she can’t be bought off or intimidated so all that is left for the industry is their futile attempts to discredit her.

If you want to talk about killing Pacific Fish how about we start with getting those net pens out of our waters. Thats just one of
the industries PR Shrills standard deflection talking points, we have heard them all and your wasting your breath.

On this forum Dave, the trolls are pretty easy to spot.

why do you think she was invited to speak and show this film??????? of course we are aware of what is going on, more so than you Dave. the movement to stop this BEFORE it gets started is why this event was scheduled. wake up DAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep, I emptied my wallet.

Dave is an obvious fish farm shill. Hey Dave, why not take your 'being reliant on a dying industry' frustrations out by shooting those pesky sea lions and humpbacks that get caught up in your filthy net pens...

Thank you for an enlightened show of support from our neighbour to the south.

Thank you, ReelFast for your supporting a person who is doing her utmost to help save our (which affects yours) salmon and expose the corporate/political b.s at the same time.

Cheers and two thumbs up!..........:D

Nice post! Glad there is awareness on both sides of the border it's very important.

We have two Dave's here on this forum - one good and one evil. It's too bad Dave S has to share his good name.

I have kicked the can into the arena and will work to see that out local PSA chapter shows this film ASAP. once I have a date, I will certainly be on our county commissioners as well as the port folks who seem ok with floating net pens. there was quite a bit of chatter a bit ago about locating one of these in the strait just up current from the Elwha. who knows, perhaps our 'do nothing' chapter will actually get involved in something critical to the survival of our salmon, no matter where they are headed.

Perfect timing for your post reelfast, what with Washington's new law;) It will be interesting to hear what your county commissioners have to say about your concerns with salmon farms in your backyard.

No, and I make no money from posting my opinions regarding salmon farms, but I am very concerned regarding the misinformation around them.
I believe wild Pacific salmon can co-exist with farmed Atlantics on the Pacific Coast and particularly here in BC; recent science regarding ISA presence on this coast is showing that. I am certainly in favour of more research on salmonid diseases and that is coming with the work of Riddell and Miller.

Until that research is finalized I suggest we do for wild salmon, especially stocks known to be endangered, something we can all agree will benefit them ... limit their harvest.
Bitching about salmon farms being the cause of wild salmon declivity, in the face of all the other known causes, is just lame. But again, that's just my opinion.

Whereas, on the contrary, many people on this forum and the organisations below are very concerned regarding the mis-information and opinions posted by fish feed lot proponents, even in the face of massive amounts of information from all over the world, about the dangerous impacts of open net pen fish feed lots.

This is a typical bald statement from Dave, but he never gives his sources or links to any science. On the contrary there is massive amounts of science against fish feed lots

Very noble of Dave and the open net pen fish feed lots I’m sure! Meanwhile they carry on their destructive “experiment” on the coastal ecology of Canada with absolutely no concern or real knowledge of the overall consequences.

Until that research is finalized I suggest we do for wild salmon, especially stocks known to be endangered, something we can all agree will benefit them ... limit their harvest.
Limiting harvest of endangered stocks has absolutely nothing to do with the issue of fish feed lots and is a diversionary argument, very common in the “denier” camp.

Bitching about salmon farms being the cause of wild salmon declivity, in the face of all the other known causes, is just lame. But again, that's just my opinion.
Pretending that fish feed lots are benign, and have no impact on wild salmon stocks, or the ecosystem in general is just willful ignorance and an outright fabrication. It is worse, it ignores and denigrates the work of hundreds of scientists and insults and demonstrates contempt for thousands of concerned citizens who know otherwise from all this work.

I don't know all that much about the salmon farms, but you will not convince me that such concentrations of fish in the areas they are in are not causing problems for the smolts migrating through. That kind of activity and poop being concentrated in these locations cannot be good for the environment. I definitely avoid buying this product as I also avoid buying beef produced in feedlots for the same reason.

'lame'...wow I have to edit my post or I will get kicked off this site.

'coexist' So much so dfo has posted an alert for escapee Atlantic's. Also setup a task force and hotline. and you wonder how fishfarms can be a threat!?

I cant fathom how some people rationalize.
