Alberni Inlet

I love those afternoons when u come out of the river and its blowing so hard the the boat moves 3 ft sideways tell u can get your nose into it.. then all is good :) :)

Correct x 10000 The reason we get big winds on hot days is Port Alberni really heats up and as the hot air (not from inhabitants) rises, it draws in the cooler air from out in Barkley Sound. The longest straight shot is from Pocahontas to Franklin River - that allows the wind to crank up the wave action by the time you hit Nahmint. Not uncommon on really hot days for 5 to 6 foot green ones to be encountered. Sometimes the Alberni Harbour also allows a straight shot, creating some really intense wind waves at the entrance to the river. Watch out for logs, the waves hide them really well. Travel safe, its nasty.

Here's the latest update. Note the planned fin fish closure which is under discussion to further protect this small return of sockeye.
