Was out from Esquimalt Anglers this morning and caught a crab that was fully 8 inches across the back. Unheard of in the land of 4000 traps. Thinking it must have wandered in from deeper water. No way it could avoid all the traps while it grew from 6 1/2 to 8 inches. Got one other keeper and tossed about 20 back which is the more normal course of action. As a bonus, these crabs were solidly full of meat. September must be a good time of year.
