I just checked out the webcam at Pacific Gateway Marina and looks like it's good. Not sure about up the river though.

San juan river was up to 9.0 m as of Saturday morning. I,ve never seen it go above 7- 8m before. Usual flow height is 2.5

The Port Renfrew Marina is fine , doesn't look like any flooding occurred . Cant say that for the properties on island road that goes along the main channel of the San Juan . The area is prone to some flooding and Owners usually put machinery and other Stuff up high , didn't help this year :(

I was thinking about a trip to Renfrew in a couple of weeks but read yesterday that the town is pulling in the welcome mat for now. Hopefully my usual May long weekend trip may be back on by then but if not I will continue to practice what I preach to the grandchildren, fishing is all about patience. :)

Any rumblings from Port Renfrew Marina?
Be good to see Rex and crew again, at a distance of course. Where’s that Jackel when you need some good old heated weight chuckin fun?

I'm not sure about the Port Renfrew Marina. I have annual moorage at Pacific Gateway Marina and they are hoping for a June 1st opening as it stands right now...but that can change as we know.

Isn't the current Chinook retention closure impacting that area ?

It is the same as last year I believe Scott. You can make a 30min run up the coast to avoid the closure...but not an option for everyone either probably. Although the town is on a bit of a lock down asking non residents to avoid coming to town for now. I have a place there but coming out right now isn't an option with work but looking forward to it when it happens. :)

A friend and I are Kayak fishing. Looking for some ling cod and halibut. (small chickens are fine). Any general recommendation where to head to. We do a lot of saltwater fishing around Nanaimo but looking for some west coast spots.

I would try Sombrio, hidden gem for halibut and cod. On the right day it’s protected from the wind but a haul to carry your kayaks down to launch.

Let me know how you do, I’ve caught halibut anywhere from 65-80 ft of water there.

Jordan River you can drive right up to the beach , can be good for Hali at times not sure about Lings

Anyone heading out this week? With any luck I'll be putting in on Thursday and hope to have a report or two to post.

It will be July before we on the WA side can launch at Neah Bay so very few US residents will be accessing Swiftsure until then. So for a brief period of time, you guys will have the place mostly to yourselves. I'll be looking forward to your reports from the area as a preview of what I might encounter on the bank when I'm allowed to get there.
