With all the bad news resently. Can anyone tell me if 27-2 ie. cliff point/lighthouse is part of the offshore closure.

Thx Scott

Dont have time for anything comprehensive right now, but suffice to say its game on in Winter Harbour. Stacks of squid and needlefish have fish congregating and holding in the near shore waters off Kwakiutl, Kains and Lippy, which is all open for 2 a day 4 possession. Its on, and its good... abundant Chinook in the 15-20lb range and an array of Hali and Ling feeding the midwater

Of course they are, until you spend all the money to get up there then it’s,, damn you should have been here last week it was crazy lol ;) ;)

August Long Weekend, the Gong Show fish patrol will be back in full effect.
Looking forward to getting my moment of zen.
If we are ever on land, please stop by Dick's Last Resort for a beverage!

I'm heading up to Winter Harbour early Aug for 4 days with the family. This will be my first time over there so really looking forward to it, and not entirely sure what to expect. I'll be thrilled if I get a chance to get outside on a calmer day that won't make young kids seasick and show them a big lingcod and maybe a halibut.

Walleyes I dare you to test your theory! Clearly you have never been to Winter Harbour

No I haven’t been you are correct. My Nephews have been a few times and yes it is a great place to fish.

My post was just a bit of a rub is all. I find it hard to take most lodge personal posts serious, most seem to be quite self promoting, and hey why not.

I will be following this thread with great interest. Have never fished WH before but expect to fish the area extensively this year.

Any updates on the conditions up there? We are heading up on June 23rd for a week and would like to know the scoop. Any commercial fisheries through there? We came up last year after a commercial rock fishery and had to work to get our fish. Very familiar with Lippy, Kains and the Cliff, but where is Kwakiutl?

Never heard of Cains - but have had excellent fishing at Kains ;).

Do any of you stay in Port Alice when fishing WH?
If you stay on the boat in WH - what are the facilities like - washrooms, showers...?

you can arrange to moor at the OUTPOST,which is the general store, they have washrooms, laundry and showers at the top of the dock. and of course beer etc.

X3 Outpost. Good people, good store with lots available. We stayed up above the store and they were nice little rooms. Could probably get a decent rate this time of year I'd think. Check with Qualicum Rivers Resort and make sure they have ice going up there as well. Enjoy.

Port Alice would be a long haul daily. There are a few places to stay in Winter Harbour. As mentioned the Outpost is one of them. There is a campground next to the Outpost. It can take trailers. Glen Olsen (Oli's Fishing Charters) has a business with both land based cabins as well as floating cabins. We have stayed at and enjoyed both. The floaters are a little more rustic, but the convenience of being out on the water is worth it. I personally would not be going back and forth to Port Alice every day.

My buddy and I were up there this time last year and we did well for Springs, Lings and lost a monster Hali. Only went out for Hali's one afternoon as it was pretty rough for a couple of the days we were there. We stayed at Oli's in one of his cabin's right on the water. Great cabin; big with a bbq on porch and kitchen stocked with cooking stuff etc. We launched at Coal Harbor and boated over to Winter Harbor. There's a parking lot at Coal Harbor where you can leave your truck/trailer for days. Just pay at the float plane shop there.
