Got out again - I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching - same place, same gear, same bait - different result - aside from dragging some poor little ling around for a bit, not a sniff of anything else. Dead calm water and only 3 or 4 other boats.
What was interesting though - a pretty hefty sealion - at the surface thrashing something around - got close enough to see it was a Great Pacific octopus - pretty good sized too. 1/2 hr later, it back on the surface again with another one. Really goes to show those big buggers can hoover up a lot of protein!
