Thanks,
We got in yesterday afternoon but the rain kept us off the water. Lots of action on coho and one 10 lb spring this morning for us on spoons working Bamfield side down. Played around with some plugs this evening looking for something bigger. One hard hit on a plug. Turned out to be another coho, It was fun.

Headed up in a week! Can’t wait.

Thought I would share a report from a friend who is a novice fisherman:

Friend Jeff fished the weekend and said lots of coho around cree island. Not many springs over 5lbs. He landed a 13lb and 16lb along with 40+ coho in a couple days.

How have others been doing on Chinook? Many around?

Cheers

Hey Nugget, was up there this past weekend. Lots of coho like your friend said and some springs in the mix. Some good size around, the fish are spread out, you’ll figure em out when you get out there. Anchovies was our top producer. Some springs came off the rocks for us and some deeper water. A mix of 3-4 inch juvenile herring and 4-5 inch anchovies in the stomachs.

Ran out from alberni yesterday. Stopped at a few places and found luck at effingham. Spoons and hoochies to start. Nada on spoons. 80-120 feet was our best. 4 coho 2 springs - 13 lb biggest to 7 pound

Thanks for the report. Hopefully things pick up and a few more Chinook enter the sound. It has slowed this week forsure

We were looking for something a little bigger to fill our limits. Gently released a 16lb at the wall this evening then about an hour later the girlfriend landed a 23lb. She had lost her last 2 springs. This one took a while and we circled it for 15 minutes. Her biggest fish to date. It's been a great trip. I love this place!

What did you catch the 23lbs on...and how deep were you fishing ?

Fished mostly spoons during the trip with the coho killer herring aid getting most of the fish at depths of 42, 54 and 63. We ended up switching to anchovy with glow green teaser head on a 6' leader and a Bon Chovey flashers for the last day. Fished in tight at 33' and 42'. The 33' side was hot and where we got the 23 lb by Namit Islet.

Awesome, thank you !

I wouldn't put too much stock in reports from guiding service's Facebook pages....
Just my opinion though.
But my father is fishing Edward King this morning. Released 4 coho and a 10lb chinook.
Bonked one coho and lost a ~25 # at the boat. solo

I would have to disagree with not putting much stock in guiding service's Facebook pages. Obviously, and it goes without saying, you have to be discerning and confirm that you referencing a reputable and capable guides Facebook page. I fished with No Bananas this week and I can ensure you, that you what you see on his Facebook posts is exactly what is happening in Bamfield on any given day. Rocky Point Charter's was fishing beside us and he was definitely putting springs in the boat as well. Anyway...... just my humble opinion.

Had an epic week in Bamfield and Barkley Sound taking family members fishing and sight seeing. The fishing was on fire for us almost every day with Cree, Meares, the Wall, and Kirby giving the most love. 30-60 on the riggers running everything from spoons to bait with the best luck coming from herring aid or gold Skinny G. In addition to a solid roster of Chinook, coho and pinks we brought in a few high teens, a 20, 24, 25, and a 29 which made the front page image of the Vancouver Island fishing Facebook group. The 29 was a monster fish and pulled around 200 yards of line before spending 15 minutes coming to the boat. It got caught around kelp right at the end and it was tense times getting it into the net which made it all the more awesome when we pulled it in. It was my sister in law’s second salmon (the first being an 18 a few days before) and it was a team effort with lots of coaching and encouragement. I went father and son fishing off Kirby on the last day and he reeled in an 18 in amongst heavy traffic and rocks. Big thanks to all those who changed their tack as we fought it near and far and under the boat before netting it. He is still young and was grinning from ear to ear as the guys in adjacent boats cheered him on. After you get fish in your freezer it is those memories that are the real catch.

Nice report, gonna be leaving for port in the morning looking forward to fishing the area, new experience for me. What’s best to stay, Poett nook or china creek?

Gravel road to Poett Nook is super crappy right now with the loggers (Western) on strike. If your sleeping on your boat, I would stay at Poet Nook but if if towing a camper, the road is doable but pretty rough. Poett Nook does give you the better starting point for Barkley Sound, as I indicated last night, the inlet is not being consistent as the Sound. Also, the Sound has multiple of great spots, which one is on fire is the chess game; Swale, Austin (Mearse), Kirby and Beale are my top picks.
