Well, the new licenses are available.
Too bad we didn't know if we can fish for Chinook
before buying a license.

I figured because of all the changes they implemented last year that we would go into this season on the same regs. That’s always the way dfo does things. The big announcements if they’re coming at all will be after everyone is already fishing.

I see they listed any changes to conditions of license .

Nothing on prawns? Was prawns in the conditions of license? I can’t remember.

Also it has the new Halibut rules listed now.

They did clarify on bottom fish and halibut I believe , sorry for the big paste;
Halibut: No person shall catch and retain more than six (6) halibut in the
aggregate from April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020. Retained halibut shall be
immediately recorded on the licence. No person shall retain a halibut greater
than 126 cm head-on length. The possession limit is either of: one (1) halibut
measuring from 90 cm to 126 cm head-on length, OR two (2) halibut measuring
under 90 cm head-on length. Note: If you are in possession of one (1) halibut
90 cm head-on length or longer, you shall not possess any other halibut.

ROCKFISH: No person shall catch and retain in a day in Outside waters more than
three (3) rockfish, of which only one (1) may be a Quillback Rockfish, a China
Rockfish, or a Tiger Rockfish. No person shall catch and retain in Outside
waters the following species of rockfish: Bocaccio Rockfish (zero retention);
Yelloweye Rockfish (zero retention). Note: Outside waters are Management Areas
1 to 11, 21 to 27, 101 to 111, 121 to 127, 130, 142 and Subarea 12-14.
Salmon, Trout: No person shall use a barbed hook when fishing for salmon and
trout (includes steelhead).

Typical government-buy a license now--we want the money!! Oh by the way-you may not be able to keep the fish--no refunds of course if we shut it down!!! Usual BS!

Yep that’s the roll of the dice but I gotta be honest, I bought mine. I believe in the political solution to our problems out here. Liberals have named several ministers from BC, they understand the importance of BC in this years election and they’ve invested lots of cash to help keep us fishing. I think we’re fishing. Maybe a hiccup here and there but we’re fishing.

They gave up the booklet of compacy to fish and to stand under when you sign.its bait! believe none of what you see half of what you hear .carefull of the words you choose to speek and for christs sake don't hurt anyone.

Well we could all just hold off buying a license until all is announced. Prawns and shell fish reductions were not put in the conditions of license because we asked for another opportunity to the SFAC's to understand that DFO is going to reduce the daily limits, and to wrap our minds around how we wish to advise DFO as to what the reduction should look like. Status quo isn't what we are talking about - its more about shaping the new daily limits. A variance order will be issued once the SFAB MB is able to hear input from SFAC's and weigh in on providing advice to DFO.

So come April 1 is it status quo until the variation then ?

Frankly, while the daily limit reductions will have an impact, it's the possession limits that are going to kill the lodge/fishing resort businesses. I suspect people travelling from out of town could live with one fish or 100 prawns per day if they could keep 4 days worth before returning home.

I see they updated the notice and corrected wording.

ROCKFISH DESCENDING DEVICES

The use of a descending device is now required by condition of licence to
assist in the conservation and survivability of rockfish being returned to the
water. Because of their closed swim bladders, rockfish brought to the surface
suffer barotrauma, causing the swim bladder to inflate and reducing the
probability of their survival upon release. Handle catch as little as possible,
using wet hands to preserve the protective slime coat, and return to the water
at depth of capture as quickly as possible (under two minutes). To avoid
catching rockfish, move to another fishing location.
