10% Tariff Announced on U.S. Boats

If anyone has been following the travelling gong show that is the Trump administration and their newly announced steel/aluminum tariffs, you may have heard that Canada is retaliating against the U.S.

Amongst the retaliatory measures is Canada imposing a 10% tariff on U.S. made boats. It probably won't have a big impact for awhile as most of our boat dealers already have the inventory on ground that they will be selling this year but obviously those costs will need to be passed onto the customers in the future. Hopefully this will be short-lived but may have an impact on the price of boats as most of the new boats sold in Canada are manufactured in the U.S.

With a weak Canadian dollar you are better off buying a Canadian made boat anyway.

CBC is my favourite radio channel, and has been since I was 20 something.
This is That, Bachman's music show, whatever they play when I'm driving to the ferry at 2:00am.
Lots on here would consider me a communist for finding anything CBC does credible.
This link helps explain the Canadian strategy of targeting swing states and the ridings of influential American politicians.
I won't pretend to know where all American boats are made, but lots are made in Florida.

Scratching my head to as more boats going south right now so why risk a tit for tat move on Canadian made boats which wold benefit the US not us?

Not quite communist, maybe socialist which is a good thing! What I can't comprehend is how this government or any media can give these governments credit for their moves that are done swiftly when they have no experience or knowledge of implementing correctly. From a recent purchase where they did "tons of due diligence" to a tariff on motorboats they really are captains of a ship with 3 years experience and it shows.

Hopefully the motorboat industry speaks up and I'd be happy to lend a voice if they want to appose the tariff.
